eGauge South Africa – Fast, Clean Shopify Setup for a Low-Bandwidth Market
eGauge SA is the official South African distributor for eGauge energy monitoring systems. While their previous website offered basic company information, it lacked the functionality of a true online store. They needed a fast, lightweight Shopify build that could support product listings, online checkout, and lead generation, while still performing reliably in South Africa’s low-bandwidth environment.
The Challenge
No e-commerce functionality: only a basic contact form website. They also had no products available online, making SEO and structure weak.
Very slow site speeds in South Africa due to large image files and poor hosting. Shaun & Lauryn needed a professional, fast e-Commerce site, that looked good without heavy design elements.
The Solution
We built a custom Shopify store optimised specifically for low-bandwidth users. Compressed and optimised all images using lightweight formats, with strict size control. Removed unnecessary app dependencies and excess scripts to reduce page load time.
We then designed a clear, no-fluff storefront that gets users to products and checkout quickly. We added structured product pages with plenty use of SEO optimised wording, to enable full online ordering without slowing down the site.
The Result
Homepage and product pages now load under 2 seconds on average, even on slower mobile connections. Full checkout flow implemented without speed trade-offs.
Site now ranks higher locally thanks to faster load speeds and structured content. The store reflects a professional, technical brand, suited to engineers and installers in the energy industry.
